DANIEL BERNARD ROUMAIN Dancers, Dreamers and Presidents (TPS premiere)
AARON COPLAND Lincoln Portrait
LEONARD BERNSTEIN Slava! (TPS premiere)
LEONARD BERNSTEIN Symphonic Dances from West Side Story

Andrew Litton, conductor
Geoffrey Owens, narrator

Two powerful works by the great Leonard Bernstein, his incomparable Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Slava! anchor this powerful program of American music. In 1942 Aaron Copland wrote Lincoln Portrait, a work that has deeply touched the American consciousness; here narrated by noted actor Geoffrey Owens (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Haves and Have Nots). Inspired by a dance between President Barack Obama and Ellen DeGeneres in 2007, Dancers, Dreamers and Presidents is an orchestral tone poem composed by ASU’s own Daniel Bernard Roumain. Don’t miss this kaleidoscope of imagery and hope with our nation at the center.
